The perlite used in Spa Dent’s cleaning and polishing paste has been specially heat treated causing the particles to expand to 10 to 15× their normal size. The process is reminiscent of popping corn with large but very delicate particles. As you apply pressure with your toothbrush the particles break down rapidly from coarse to fine changing from cleaning to polishing. These properties are ideal for home-use eliminating the risk of damage to enamel that is associated with calcium carbonate and silica based Prophy pastes that do not break down. These pastes can only be used 1-2 times yearly by a trained oral health professional. By contrast, Spa Dent’s prophy paste can be used daily.
